Booking Your Rann Utsav Trip: A Straightforward Process
The Rann Utsav is one of the most anticipated festival seasons in India, drawing visitors from across the country and abroad between October and February each year. Booking a package is straightforward when you know the steps — but the details matter, particularly if you are travelling during peak dates in December or January, when availability moves quickly.
This guide walks you through the entire booking process, from choosing your dates to what happens after your confirmation arrives.
Step One: Choose Your Dates
The first decision is when to go. The Rann Utsav festival runs from October through February, but different periods of the season offer different experiences.
October and November are the most comfortable months in terms of weather — warm days, pleasant evenings, and the salt desert at its most accessible. The festival is in full swing, but it is not yet at peak capacity. If you are sensitive to crowds and prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, this window is excellent.
December is the season's peak. Full-moon nights in December are the festival's most celebrated moments — the White Rann under a December moon is the experience that most visitors have seen in photographs and want to replicate in person. The Christmas and New Year period is particularly popular. This is when you should book earliest, as availability is tightest.
January continues the peak season. The Makar Sankranti period in mid-January is a special date at the Rann, with kite festivals and extended celebrations. Temperatures are coldest in January, so factor this into your accommodation choice.
February is the final month of the festival and offers mild temperatures and a noticeably quieter atmosphere. If you missed the earlier months, a February trip is still very worthwhile.
For special dates — full-moon nights, Diwali, Makar Sankranti, Christmas, New Year — check our special dates page for exact scheduling and availability. These dates require the most advance notice.
Step Two: Select Your Package Duration and Category
Our packages are structured around three duration options: one night and two days from ₹5,900 per person, two nights and three days at ₹11,500 per person, and three nights and four days at ₹16,000 per person. Each includes accommodation, breakfast and dinner, entry to the cultural programme, a desert safari, and return transport from Bhuj.
Within each duration, you choose your accommodation category: Non-AC Swiss Cottage (most budget-friendly), AC Swiss Cottage (recommended for December and January visits), or Rajwadi AC Cottage (premium option with superior décor, a private sit-out, and enhanced furnishings).
If you are visiting during the cooler months of December and January, the AC category is a meaningful investment in sleep quality. If you are visiting in October, November, or February, the Non-AC Swiss Cottage offers excellent value.
Consider the group composition as well. Families with children often benefit from the flexibility of longer packages that give children time to settle in and enjoy all the activities without rushing. Couples celebrating special occasions tend toward the Rajwadi category and the two or three-night packages for a fuller experience.
Step Three: Submit an Enquiry or Call Directly
Once you have a sense of your dates and preferred package, the next step is to make contact. There are two ways to do this.
The first is to use the enquiry form on our booking page. Provide your name, travel dates, group size, preferred package, cottage category, and any special requirements or questions. Our team responds to enquiries within a few hours during business hours and confirms availability for your requested dates.
The second — and often faster — option is to call our team directly at +91 70960 90666. A phone conversation allows us to confirm availability in real time, answer any questions about the different cottage categories or tent city locations, and advise on dates if your preferred window is not available. Many guests find this more efficient, particularly if they are trying to coordinate a group or need advice on a combined Dhordo-Dholavira itinerary.
Step Four: Confirm Your Booking and Make Payment
Once availability is confirmed and you are ready to proceed, our team will share the booking details — the package, dates, cottage category, total cost, and any applicable group discounts — for your review. Confirm that everything is correct before making payment.
Payment is typically arranged via bank transfer or UPI, with a deposit required to secure the booking and the balance due closer to your travel date. Our team will specify the exact payment schedule at the time of booking. Keep a record of your payment confirmation and the booking reference number — you will need these on arrival.
For groups of eight or more guests, it is worth asking specifically about group discounts. These are available on most package categories and can represent a meaningful saving on the total cost. Group bookings also benefit from coordinated logistics — adjacent cottages, shared transport timing, and flexibility on group dinner arrangements.
Step Five: Receive Your Confirmation and Prepare
After payment, you will receive a written confirmation that includes your booking reference, travel dates, package details, cottage category, and the transfer arrangements from Bhuj. Save this document and carry a copy when you travel.
Before departing, a few practical preparations make the trip smoother.
Bring warm clothing if you are visiting in December or January — Kutch nights can be cold, and even in an AC (heated) cottage, you will be spending time outdoors in the evenings. A light jacket is sufficient in October and November; proper winter layers are necessary in December and January.
Carry cash for the artisan bazaar, food stalls, and optional activities. The tent city has limited digital payment infrastructure at individual stalls, and many artisans prefer cash transactions.
Download an offline map of the Kutch region before you leave — mobile connectivity between Bhuj and Dhordo is adequate on most networks but not universal, and having an offline reference is useful.
Tips for Getting the Best Out of Your Booking
Book eight to twelve weeks in advance for December and January dates. Peak-season cottages, particularly the Rajwadi category and the AC Swiss Cottages on full-moon weekends, fill up well in advance. Waiting until a few weeks before your planned travel date significantly limits your options.
Ask about the upcoming full-moon dates when booking — if your travel window includes a full-moon night at the White Rann, try to schedule your stay to include it. This is the festival's signature experience and worth planning around.
Clarify the transfer arrangements from Bhuj before you finalise. If you are arriving by flight to Bhuj Airport, confirm the pick-up time and meeting point. If you are arriving by train, confirm which station. The transfer is included in most packages, but the logistics need to be coordinated clearly.
Mention any dietary requirements at the time of booking. The tent city's buffet is primarily vegetarian (as Gujarat customs dictate), but guests with specific requirements — Jain food, severe allergies, or other considerations — should inform the team in advance.
For any questions about the booking process, package specifics, or travel logistics, the team is available at +91 70960 90666. We are happy to help you navigate the options and put together a trip that matches what you are looking for.
