Getting There
The Rann Utsav festival takes place at Dhordo Tent City in Kutch, Gujarat. The nearest major city is Bhuj, approximately 80 km away. There are three convenient ways to reach the White Rann — by air, train, or road.
Bhuj Airport (BHJ) is the nearest airport, 80 km from Dhordo. Direct flights operate from Mumbai (1.5 hrs via IndiGo/SpiceJet), Ahmedabad (1 hr), and Delhi (2.5 hrs via Air India/IndiGo). Taxis from Bhuj Airport to Dhordo cost ₹1,200–₹1,800. If flying from Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad or Kolkata, connect via Ahmedabad or Mumbai.
Bhuj Railway Station is well-connected. Key trains: Kutch Express from Mumbai (~22 hrs), Sayaji Nagari Express from Ahmedabad (~8 hrs), Delhi–Bhuj Express (~22 hrs). From Bhuj station, taxis and GSRTC buses connect to Dhordo (80 km, ~2 hrs). Book train tickets months in advance during peak festival months November–January.
Road travel is excellent on NH27 and Gujarat state highways. From Ahmedabad the drive to Dhordo is 400 km (~7 hrs). GSRTC operates direct buses from Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar to Bhuj; from Bhuj, shared jeeps and taxis connect to Dhordo every few hours. Carry sufficient fuel — petrol stations are sparse beyond Bhuj.
The Rann Utsav 2026-27 season runs October 2026 – March 2027. The absolute best months are November, December, and January — nights are pleasantly cool (10–20°C), full moon nights illuminate the salt flats in ethereal silver light, and all activities are in full swing. Full moon nights sell out first — book those dates months in advance.
February and March are warmer but less crowded. Republic Day weekend (26 January) and Christmas–New Year week are also peak periods requiring early booking. Diwali week in October marks the opening of the season with a festive atmosphere.
