Rann Utsav Location

Where Rann Utsav Actually Is

Rann Utsav is held at Dhordo Tent City, a village in Bhuj taluka on the very edge of the Great Rann of Kutch — one of the largest salt deserts in the world. It sits in Gujarat's Kutch district, 85 km from Bhuj city on the Bhuj–Nakhatrana–Khavda–Dhordo highway, about 1 hour 45 minutes by road.

Dhordo itself is not just a stopover — in 2023 the United Nations World Tourism Organisation named it one of the world's Best Tourism Villages, recognising its natural setting and community-led tourism model. The White Rann salt flats begin right at the edge of the Tent City, so once you arrive, everything the festival is known for is within walking or short-shuttle distance.

Best Time to Visit

The Rann Utsav 2026-27 season runs 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027. The absolute best months are November, December, and January — nights are pleasantly cool (10–20°C), full moon nights illuminate the salt flats in ethereal silver light, and all activities are in full swing. Full moon nights sell out first — book those dates months in advance.

February and early March are warmer but less crowded. Republic Day weekend (26 January 2027) and 18 December 2026 – 2 January 2027 are also peak periods requiring early booking. Diwali Week (8 – 14 November 2026) falls just over a week after the season opens.

What to Pack

  • 🧥
Warm layers for nights — temperatures drop to 8–15°C in December and January. A jacket is essential even in November.
  • 👟
Comfortable walking shoes — the White Rann surface is flat but firm; good sneakers work well.
  • 📷
Camera with low-light mode — ideal for full moon photography. Bring extra batteries as cold drains them faster.
  • 🧴
Sunscreen & sunglasses — salt flats reflect sunlight intensely. SPF 50+ and polarised lenses recommended.
  • 💧
Water bottle — stay hydrated in the dry desert air. The tent city provides water but carry some for daytime excursions.
  • 💳
Cash and photo ID — carry government-issued ID (Aadhaar/passport). Some stalls inside the festival may not accept cards.

Rann Utsav Tips

A Sample Rann Utsav Itinerary

Once you've reached Dhordo, here's roughly how a Rann Utsav itinerary plays out on our most-booked 2 Nights / 3 Days package (from ₹12,600 per person). Use it as a starting point — every package includes the same core experiences, just spread across more or fewer days.

  • 1
Day 1 — Arrival & White Desert sunset. Check in from 12:30, then depart 17:00–17:30 for Sunset Point at the White Rann. The salt flats catch the evening light for about 90 minutes before you head back to the Tent City for dinner and the cultural show.
  • 2
Day 2 — Sunrise, Kalo Dungar & Gandhi Nu Gaam. An early 06:00 departure for Sunrise Point, back in time for breakfast. In the afternoon (14:30 onward) it's a guided trip to Kalo Dungar — Kutch's highest point — and the crafts village of Gandhi Nu Gaam, returning to the Tent City by evening.
  • 3
Day 3 — Bhuj sightseeing & departure. Check out from 09:30, with complimentary sightseeing of the Shree Swaminarayan Temple and Kutch Museum in Bhuj on your way to the station or airport (the museum is closed on Wednesdays).

Travelling for 1 night or 3+ nights instead? Every itinerary keeps the sunset visit, the cultural evening and the Bhuj drop — longer stays simply add more of Kutch, like Mandvi Beach or Dholavira. See the full day-by-day itinerary for every package length.
