Plan Your Visit

Best Time to Travel from Delhi

Delhi travellers escape the worst of north-Indian winter by visiting the Rann between November and February. Delhi mornings in December–January are 6–10°C with heavy fog; Bhuj at the same time is 12–22°C with crystal-clear skies. The Delhi Christmas–New Year stretch is the single most-booked week of our entire season — flights and trains both fill 60 days out. February (post-Republic Day to mid-March) is quieter and gives you the same daytime weather without the festive crowd. Avoid the first week of October when Delhi air-quality post-Diwali makes flight-day commutes from south Delhi to IGI miserable.

Insider Knowledge

Delhi Traveller Tips

Practical advice gathered from hundreds of Delhi guests who have travelled with us to Rann Utsav over the past five seasons.

  • IndiGo flight 6E-2185 (DEL–BHJ direct) operates four days a week during peak season. On non-flight days, fly DEL–AMD–BHJ — the connection at Ahmedabad adds about 3 hours but flights are cheaper.
  • For overnight train travel, Ashram Express (12915) from Delhi to Ahmedabad is the strongest option — it leaves Delhi at 3:20 PM and reaches Ahmedabad at 6:55 AM the next day, perfectly timed for a same-day onward connection to Bhuj.
  • Delhi guests consistently order extra layers at our cultural performances — the open desert wind drops temperatures fast after 7 PM. Bring a windcheater plus a fleece even in November.
  • Delhi photographers should target the Magh Purnima full moon (mid-January) — it is the clearest, coldest night of the season with the strongest moonlight reflection on the salt flats. We pre-book photography slots six weeks ahead.
  • For Delhi families, the Republic Day long weekend (24–28 January) is our most-booked Delhi-origin slot. Book 75 days in advance to secure Deluxe AC tents.
  • Ahmedabad–Delhi return flight prices spike between Christmas and New Year. If your dates are flexible, return via Mumbai instead — DEL→BHJ→BOM→DEL on different days is sometimes ₹4,000 cheaper than the direct round-trip.

FAQ

Delhi to Rann Utsav — Common Questions

How long is the flight from Delhi to Bhuj?

The direct IndiGo flight (6E-2185) takes 2 hours 5 minutes. Connecting flights via Ahmedabad take 4–5 hours including layover. Both fly into Bhuj Airport (BHJ), 80 km from our Dhordo Tent City — our complimentary pickup covers this leg.

Are there direct trains from Delhi to Bhuj?

There is no direct daily train; you change at Ahmedabad. Take Ashram Express (12915) Delhi to Ahmedabad, then the Bhuj Express (12961) onward. Total journey 26–28 hours. Many Delhi guests instead prefer the morning flight.

Can we do a Delhi weekend trip to Rann Utsav?

A 2 Nights / 3 Days trip from Delhi works perfectly. Friday morning flight, Friday–Sunday at the Rann, Monday morning flight back. Our team handles all Bhuj-end logistics so you only manage two flight legs.

Is the Republic Day weekend a good time for Delhi travellers to visit?

Republic Day (26 January) at the Rann is one of the most special evenings — special cultural programming, best winter weather, and a long weekend that fits Delhi work calendars. Book by mid-November as it sells out 60 days in advance.

What is the cheapest way to reach Rann Utsav from Delhi?

The cheapest combination: overnight Volvo bus Delhi → Ahmedabad (₹2,200), train Ahmedabad → Bhuj (₹450 sleeper class), then our Bhuj pickup. Total transit cost roughly ₹2,800 one-way. Cheaper than flying but adds 18 hours of travel each way — only practical for budget backpackers.
