Plan Your Visit
Indore has a moderate winter — December averages 10–24°C — making the transition to the Rann's desert climate manageable. The road trip from Indore via Vadodara is one of the smoothest in central India. Best windows are late December (Christmas–New Year) and the Republic Day long weekend in late January. Avoid early October when post-Diwali road traffic on the Indore–Vadodara stretch is heavy. February also works well, and is significantly less crowded than December. Indore food enthusiasts will appreciate that the Kutchi cuisine at Dhordo Tent City pairs well with their Indori palate — the spice profile is similar but with Gujarati sweetness.

No direct train. Standard routing is Indore–Vadodara–Bhuj or Indore–Ahmedabad–Bhuj with one change. Total journey 14–16 hours. Many Indore guests prefer driving instead.

Both are spice-forward but Kutchi cuisine has more Gujarati sweetness — bajra rotla, kadhi, and dabeli are signatures. Indore guests find the heat profile familiar but the dishes themselves quite different. Our chef can adjust spice levels on request.
