For most travellers visiting Rann Utsav from Mumbai, Delhi, and other major cities, train travel to Bhuj is the most practical, economical, and enjoyable option. For families and groups, trains are significantly more economical than flying.

For many travellers, the overnight train journey (departing Mumbai on Friday evening, arriving Bhuj Saturday) is a beloved part of the Rann Utsav memory.

BHUJ TO DHORDO
From Bhuj Station to Dhordo Tent City
Dhordo village — the location of the Rann Utsav Tent City — is approximately 80 km from Bhuj city centre. Our included pickup covers this transfer in a comfortable AC vehicle. The drive takes approximately one to one-and-a-half hours on NH 341, a well-maintained National Highway that runs directly into the Banni grasslands and towards the White Rann.
The landscape on the drive is fascinating in its own right — the terrain opens up from semi-urban Bhuj into the remarkable Banni grasslands, one of Asia's largest tropical grassland ecosystems, before the road reaches the checkpoint at the edge of the White Rann. Our drivers are knowledgeable and can point out notable landmarks along the way.
If your train arrives at an unusual hour (very early morning or late night), our driver will still be there to meet you. Simply ensure we have your train details in advance. For trains with frequent delays, we track your train in real time using Indian Railways apps and adjust the pickup accordingly.

Which is the best train from Mumbai to Bhuj for Rann Utsav?
The Kutch Express (12475) is the most popular and convenient train from Mumbai Central to Bhuj. It departs Mumbai at approximately 23:05 and arrives in Bhuj around 21:00 the next day — approximately 22 hours. The Bandra Terminus to Bhuj Express (22959) is another option, departing at approximately 15:30 from Bandra Terminus and arriving in Bhuj in approximately 18 hours. Both trains are available on IRCTC. Book at least four to six weeks in advance during October–February as they fill up quickly for the Rann Utsav season.
Do you help book train tickets?
We do not book train tickets directly — all Indian Railways reservations must be made through IRCTC (irctc.co.in) or the IRCTC Rail Connect app. However, we provide detailed guidance on the best trains from each city, recommended travel classes, and typical booking windows for peak season travel. We handle everything from Bhuj onwards — our included pickup is from Bhuj Railway Station, and we manage all tent accommodation, meals, and activities at Dhordo.

Yes — pickup from Bhuj Railway Station is included in all our tent packages. After booking your package with us, share your train details and we will arrange a driver to meet you at the station with a name placard. The drive from Bhuj to Dhordo Tent City is approximately 80 km and takes around one to one-and-a-half hours on a well-maintained highway. Drop back to Bhuj station at the end of your stay is also included.
What travel class is recommended on the train to Bhuj?
3-Tier AC (3AC) is the recommended class for most travellers — comfortable for the journey length and typically priced at ₹1,400 to ₹1,800 per person depending on the train and booking date. 2-Tier AC (2AC) provides more privacy and is suitable for couples or those who prefer additional comfort at ₹2,000 to ₹2,800. For budget-conscious travellers, Sleeper class (SL) at ₹400 to ₹600 per person is also available. Avoid General (Unreserved) class for journeys of 18 hours or more.
How far in advance should I book the Bhuj train during Rann Utsav season?
Train reservations to Bhuj during the Rann Utsav season (October to March) should ideally be made 60 to 90 days in advance — especially for full moon weekends, Christmas, New Year, and Republic Day periods. IRCTC opens bookings exactly 60 days before travel date at 10:00 AM, and popular dates fill within hours. Tatkal quota (premium fast booking) opens 24 hours before departure, but is significantly more expensive and availability is not guaranteed for popular trains. Plan well ahead.
