Plan Your Visit
For Ahmedabad travellers the entire Rann Utsav season works well — but November and December are the sweet spot. Daytime temperatures hover between 18–28°C and nights are cool enough for the bonfire and stargazing experiences without being uncomfortably cold. Avoid the last week of October if Diwali shopping is in full swing in Ahmedabad — Bhuj-bound trains and the NH 27 highway both get crowded. From late January to February, mornings drop to 8–10°C in the desert; pack thermal layers if you are travelling with elderly guests. Most Ahmedabad families pick a long weekend in November or the Christmas–New Year window when schools are closed.

There are no direct AC buses to Dhordo, but GSRTC runs overnight Volvo services from Ahmedabad to Bhuj (about eight hours). From Bhuj, our included transfer or a private taxi (₹2,500) covers the final 80 km to Dhordo Tent City.
NH 27 is well-lit and patrolled up to Samakhiali. Beyond Samakhiali toward Bhuj the highway is darker but still well-maintained. We recommend daytime driving with departure before 6 AM. If you must drive at night, keep a co-driver, and avoid the 1–4 AM stretch when truck traffic peaks.
