Getting There
Planning a trip from Chennai to Rann of Kutch? This guide covers the distance (~1,800 km), travel options by flight, train, and road, and the best way to experience Rann Utsav from Tamil Nadu.
From Chennai, the most comfortable way to reach Rann Utsav is by flying to Bhuj Airport (BHJ) directly or via Ahmedabad. The flight journey is just 2.5 hrs (flight), after which our pickup service takes you directly to Dhordo Tent City. We recommend a minimum 2-night stay to make the most of the trip from this distance.

Plan Your Visit
Chennai travellers see one of the sharpest weather contrasts of any of our visitors — Chennai in December still sits at 22–29°C; Dhordo at night drops to 7–12°C. Pack accordingly. The strongest windows for Chennai guests are the Christmas–New Year stretch (school holidays plus perfect 18–24°C daytime Rann weather) and the Pongal long weekend in mid-January, which lines up neatly with the Makar Sankranti kite festival at Dhordo. February is also excellent and noticeably less crowded than December. Avoid late October, when the MAA–AMD/BOM connecting flights have fewer daily slots and fares spike; skip mid-March onward, when daytime Rann temperatures climb past 32°C and the season itself closes on 7 March.
Day-by-Day
Morning IndiGo MAA–BOM or MAA–AMD connecting flight, landing in Bhuj by early afternoon. Our pickup vehicle is waiting at the kerb for the 85 km, 1 hour 45 minute transfer to Dhordo. Check in, welcome chai, sunset walk on the White Rann, evening cultural performance and bonfire dinner.
Sunrise walk on the salt flats at 5:45 AM. Hot breakfast back at the tent. Mid-morning ATV ride or paramotoring (advance booking only). Craft village handicraft session before lunch. Afternoon at leisure by the pool. Evening Bhavai dance performance.
Choose the half-day Kalo Dungar trip — Kutch’s highest point, with the Dattatreya temple and a panoramic view of the Rann — or the longer Dholavira UNESCO Harappan site (4 hours each way). Most Chennai guests on a 3N/4D package pick Dholavira; on shorter stays, Kalo Dungar fits the half-day window better.
Breakfast and a last walk on the Rann. Check out by 10:30 AM. Lunch in Bhuj — try the Kutchi dabeli at Geeta Snacks. Afternoon transfer to Bhuj Airport for the connecting flight home via Ahmedabad or Mumbai.
