Rann Utsav Deluxe AC vs Premium Tent: Which Upgrade Is Worth It?

Twin beds and printed canvas walls in the supplied Dhordo cottage photograph

The short answer

Choose Deluxe AC for an air-conditioned stay at the lower starting price. Consider Premium for the larger tent, double bed and more generous porch described in the brochure—not for a different sightseeing itinerary.

In this guide

A tent upgrade should solve something practical: more room around the bed, a preferred sleeping arrangement or a better place to unwind between excursions. It should not depend on a luxury label alone. At Dhordo Tent City, Deluxe AC Swiss Cottage and Premium Tent are separate categories, and both are different from the Rajwadi and Darbari suites.

This guide compares the two categories using the supplied brochure and published starting tariff for 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027. For the complete range, use the Dhordo Tent City accommodation page. For the choice between an air-conditioned room and the entry category, see the separate AC vs Non-AC cottage guide.

The brochure describes Premium as a larger tent. It does not provide a verified floor area, so a precise square-foot comparison would be misleading. Likewise, air conditioning does not establish that heating is available. If warmth at night is a deciding factor, ask specifically about heating and bedding rather than assuming a cooling unit has a heater mode.

How much does the upgrade actually cost?
Stay lengthDeluxe AC per personPremium per personDifference per person
1 night₹8,300₹9,300₹1,000
2 nights₹16,600₹18,600₹2,000
3 nights₹24,900₹27,900₹3,000

For two adults sharing a tent for two nights, the published Deluxe AC base is ₹33,200 and the Premium base is ₹37,200. The difference is ₹4,000 for the pair before GST and applicable date supplements. These are accommodation-package starting calculations, not complete travel budgets from your home city.

Compare both quotes for the same arrival date, stay length and guest count. A base-date Deluxe figure and a festive-date Premium figure do not isolate the cost of upgrading. Ask for the category difference on a like-for-like basis, with the applicable total shown for each option.

When Deluxe AC is the sensible choice

Choose Deluxe AC when air conditioning and an attached bathroom meet your needs and you would rather keep more of the budget for travel, shopping or an additional night. The brochure includes a sitting corner, so the choice is not simply between a bare sleeping space and a furnished room.

For a short stay, think about how much time you will actually spend inside. Arrival, a White Rann visit, dinner and the cultural programme can occupy much of the first day. If you mainly want a comfortable place to sleep, the lower-priced AC category may be enough. That is a budget decision, not a claim that Premium has no benefit.

If you prefer separate beds, request the configuration when enquiring. A category photograph helps explain the style, but it is not a room-allocation guarantee. Guests booking several tents should also ask about proximity; being in one reservation does not automatically promise adjacent rooms.

When Premium is worth considering

Premium is worth a closer look if the larger footprint, double bed and porch matter to you. Couples planning a slower stay may value that private space more than guests who expect to be out for most of the day. Travelling with a child or extra adult makes the usable room space another practical consideration.

Do not assume that a larger tent permits unlimited occupants. Tell the team the age of each child and whether you need an extra mattress. Ask for the permitted occupancy and the final bed arrangement. The child-policy and extra-bed guide explains how those questions affect the booking.

Premium is not a suite with separate bedrooms. If your priority is separate sleeping and living areas, compare the named suites on the main category page rather than expecting Premium to provide them. A higher category also does not guarantee a particular view, tent number or position unless the provider accepts that request explicitly.

Does upgrading change meals, transfers or sightseeing?

The published Dhordo programme is organised by stay length. A two-night stay has a different excursion plan from a one-night stay, whether the tent is Deluxe AC or Premium. Upgrading the room alone should not be interpreted as adding Dholavira, private transport or a separate cultural programme.

The brochure lists fixed-schedule Bhuj coach transfers and meals from arrival lunch to departure breakfast. Private transfers, optional adventures and other additions should be itemised separately. See the package-inclusions breakdown before comparing a price that bundles extra services with one that does not.

Compare an extra night against a room upgrade

There are two ways to spend a little more: improve the room or stay longer. The second option changes the itinerary and the time available; the first changes your private accommodation. Neither is automatically better. Start with the experiences you want and the time you can comfortably take away, then select the room within that plan.

If the trip is built around the White Rann and a cultural evening, a shorter stay may fit. If Kala Dungar or the published Dholavira excursion matters, compare the one-, two- and three-night packages before deciding where to spend the difference. Do not remove a desired excursion just to buy a category label.

A short checklist before you pay

  • Compare the same dates, duration and number of guests.
  • Check the exact category name: Deluxe AC, Premium and Rajwadi are not interchangeable.
  • Request the bed arrangement and any extra-mattress charge.
  • Confirm GST, date supplements, transfers and optional extras in the total.
  • Review the applicable cancellation and amendment terms.
  • Treat a photograph as category guidance, not a promise of one allocated tent.

The best upgrade is the one you can explain in a sentence: “We want the larger room and double bed,” or “We would rather keep Deluxe AC and add a night.” Send your dates and group size for a side-by-side comparison, or call +91 92747 30220.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions

What is the starting-price difference between Deluxe AC and Premium?

The published one-night starts are ₹8,300 and ₹9,300 per person on twin-sharing. The base difference is ₹1,000 per person for one night, before applicable GST and selected-date adjustments.

Does a Premium Tent include more sightseeing than Deluxe AC?

The published Dhordo itinerary varies by stay length, not simply by upgrading between these two tent categories. Compare the exact inclusions for the same dates and duration.

Does an AC tent guarantee heating?

No. The brochure lists air conditioning but does not establish a heating facility for every room. Ask the team to verify heating and bedding for your selected category.

Can a family add an extra mattress to a Premium Tent?

An extra-mattress tariff is published, but permitted occupancy and the child-age treatment must be checked for the selected room and dates. Provide every guest’s age when enquiring.
